- Um... Al, you live up on the top of a mountain don't you?? Yeah... I remember

-
- It will. You can program the PL tone into memory when you program that
- particular memory channel. While in vfo mode, key in the frequency, offset,
- etc. and turn on and set the PL tone as usual. Then you program the frequency
- into the memory. The PL tone should come on automatically whenever you

-
- I hope this helps.

-
- I recently entered the world of VHF by buying the HTX-202 from Radio Shack.
- I don't know how it compares to other HTs, but IMHO its user interface could
- use a major overhaul. Must have been designed by the HT programmers ;-)
- Many of the functions are not easy to remember. Here is one problem I have not
- solved yet:
-
- SOME of the repeaters I want to get into require a PL tone, so I program that
- in the memory. The problem is that when I recall such a repeater freq from the
- memory, the SETTINGS are OK, but it does not automatically turn the PL tone on.
- So, I transmit but do not raise the repeater. I have to remember that this rpt
- requires PL tone, to turn the tone on manually before xmitting. Wouldn't be
- easier to automatically turn it on if the recalled memory requires a PL tone
- on xmit? Can the HT still do that? How?

- I have been receiving some automated/computerized transmissions on 154.46 MHz.
- They must be coming from several locations due to different RF signal levels
- I'm picking up as various transmitters turn on and off. The audio sounds like
- very slow AFSK modulation using different tone groupings. It appears these
- different transmitters/?receivers? can talk back and forth with each other.
- Kinda sounds like pidgeons cooing at each other. :)

-
- If you expect to be able to receive (and transmit) across the entire
- window from 420-450 MHz without continually retuning the cans and still
- get any worthwhile attenuation starting at 450, you need to review
- the concept of quality factor, or "Q" one more time. Even if you are
- willing to accept a 3 dB insertion loss and need only 20 dB
- attenuation of the garbage starting at 450.50 and 30 dB at 451.00,
- you won't find any device on the commercial market that meets those
- specs for less than a five figure price tag, if at all.
-
- Even "THE radio company" doesn't charge that much, but they also don't
- expect a 30 MHz wide passband with 100 kHz skirts for cutoff. Maybe
- what you really need is the Maxon "No-Tune Tuner."

- The truth of the matter is that people use this jargon to spice up the

- informational value whatsoever. They want to sound like what they are saying
- has some substance to it - everyone else monitoring, knows otherwise.
